Cork Oak
The cork oak has a treelike growth habit, reaching heights of up to 20 meters with a loose, spreading crown. Its average lifespan is 250-300 years, decreasing in specimens exploited for cork. The most distinctive feature of this species is the remarkable development in thickness of the bark, which never detaches from the trunk, forming a suberous layer commercially termed cork.
